While competitive sports are an obvious place to start, competitive people tend to remain competitive even over things like homes, pets, kids, and jobs.

There are some people that thrive in competition; however for those that do not it might be beneficial for you to understand how the competitive mind works. Or least you should understand the things that will help you excel in these arenas; especially if you do not naturally excel in these areas.

Having some self-knowledge is invaluable when it comes to competition. If you are vying for a new job position, you will be up against other people that you may have some or little knowledge about those you are running against. After all, you’re competing against all the other job applicants even though it’s not formally declared as a competition.

The underdog knows how to score because they know how motivate themselves. Focusing hard on the qualities that set you ahead can easily be a motivator. Wanting it more than your opponent can be another motivator.

Remaining focused and staying on top of both your physical and emotional condition is part of honing the skill of competing. Winning competitions is often about how much you really believe that you can win as well as staying in top physical and mental condition, regardless of the type of competitive effort you’re putting forth.
